Jeff's Tour of Ireland

Jeff is planning a tour of Ireland, details are as follows :

Tour of Ireland/Wild Atlantic Way

We are planning a 7 day tour of Ireland which will incorporate some of the finest scenery Ireland has to offer including the Wicklow Mountains, The Wild Atlantic Way and The Ring of Kerry.

We will be leaving from Holyhead on 10th September at 8am and returning on 17th September at approx Midnight.

The cost of the ferry (Return) is £110 for Single riders (+Bike) or £180 (+Bike & Pillion) booked through http://www.directferries.co.uk/ and the cost of hotels for the 7 nights is approx £400 single or £600 for doubles. The places we are staying have more than one hotel so there are lower / higher priced options available to suit any budget.

The pace will be relaxed and will include lots of stops for refreshments and photo opportunities.

We will be mostly following pre planned routes which will be avaiilable in either Garmin or Tomtom format and will likely average between 150 - 200 miles per day

The list below includes the Hotels we have booked and the date of each destination.

You can choose to stay in the same hotels (subject to availability) or choose an alternative nearby.

Mcarthys B&B, Clonmel 10th

O Donovan's Hotel, Clonakilty 11th

Castle Lodge , Kilarney 12th

Ashford Court Boutique Hotel, Ennis 13th

Dun Ri Guesthouse, Clifden , 14th

Broadhaven Bay Hotel, Belmullet 15th

Bush Hotel, Carrick on Shannon, 16th

They are not the cheapest hotels but all have off street parking for the bikes and somewhere close by to eat / drink in the evening.

All of the hotels and alternatives in the area can be found on Booking.com

Anyone wishing to join us on all or part of this trip is more than welcome but will be responsible for booking their own Hotels and Ferries.

If you would like to register your interest or would like any more information feel free to contact me at jeffdalton@mac.com.

Jeff and Kenny are planning a long ride to the lakes next week. If you fancy going with them, details are below .

On Tuesday 5th April (Next week), Myself and fellow member Kenny Bromiley are planning to do a long one day ride  to and around the Lake District.

We will be taking in 5 of the best passes and a ride up the dead end road towards Wasdale head.

We plan on leaving around 7-730am and returning whenever. (Probably as it gets dark)

This will be a long day and the total mileage including the run up the motorway to the start of the route is likely to be approx 350 miles.

We will have 2 meeting points if anyone fancies it

The first being Chester Services on the M56 Between 7-15 and 7-30

the second being just north of Carnforth at the Truck Haven service area between 9-930am.This is conveniently placed on the A6 close to junction 35 of the M6 motorway

Historic Bike Camp has been added to the Runs List

10 -12 June
Historic Bike Camp
Miners Standard Pub nr Matlock

To be held at the 17th Century
Miners Standard Pub, Bank Top (on the B5056),                            ½ mile SW of Winster, Derbyshire DE4 2DR

As the previous Historic Bike Summer Camps were resounding successes and to satisfy the request of many who attended, it has been decided to run the event on an annual basis but in a different part of the country each year.  This will enable riders of Historic Bikes to meet up annually with like minded folk for a weekend camp and rally. The venue for 2016 is in the beautiful Derbyshire Peak District with an abundance of wonderful motorcycling roads and spectacular scenery.

The idea is to simulate a motorcycle rally as of the 1960’s and 70’s when all makes and models congregated with their owners for a weekend of 2 and 3 wheeled enjoyment.

This Summer Camp is open to all pre 1976 motorcycles, classed as “Historic Vehicle” which must be ridden to the event.  Trailers and vans will not be permitted and as it is a “Tent Only” event caravans, campervans and motor homes will not be allowed on the campsite.

The pub itself will be serving meals all weekend and as we will be supplying free tea and coffee, you can travel light if you wish and leave the cooking equipment at home….but make sure you bring your own cup.

We hope that you can join us at this, our 3rd. Historic Bike Summer Camp and make it as memorable as previous years.  So strap your tent to the back of your bike and have yourself a great weekend amongst like-minded folk.

Happy Riding.
